U2 MAGAZINE > Hi, Lemon. This is the first U2Magazine's interview for Spain and Southamerica, and it's an honour contact with you. But, to start the interview...if there is a U2fan reading this article who has not read about you...what do you say to this person and about Station? LEMON > Hi there! Its an honour for US for being interviewed! :) Well... Station started as a U2 tribute band in 1997 with 5 band members. The recent line-up is different, only the singer, Laci and his brother, the guitarist, Gabor stayed in the band. Myself as the bassist and Viktor, the drummer joined the band when Station seemed to split up a few years ago. So, the band played only U2 songs in the beginning, but since we have too much creativity :) we wrote a few original songs. We did not relase our album yet, but we're on it. Its too hard to get into the showbusiness here in Hungary without money and relations. U2MAG > I can see that the Station's members seem imitators of each member of U2. For example, you, Lemon.... are Bono, aren't you? LM > Errr, nope :) We don't really want to imitate U2 as long we don't call ourself a U2 tribute band :) But, we like the way how U2 dresses, so sometimes unwittingly we dress in the same way :) Ok, I know, I wear always sunglasses. But I guess, there is nothing wrong about it. Bono dressed up during Zoo TV era like Jim Morrison and used the same fly goggles as Lou Reed used to. U2MAG > What can you tell us about Viktor, Gabi and Laci? LM > I know those guys for a long time. They're my best mates. They great talents. I think, Laci has the greatest voice in our country, he also learned singing before, but unfortunately he isn't famous yet. Gabor has a really good sense for creating great melodies! And Viktor, he's just awesome, with great ideas, and really clear technic. And that's not just talkin, because the band won several talent scout festivals, and Laci got always the best singer award :) U2MAG > What could you feel when Bono choose you to sing "Fly"? LM > Oh dear, it was a shock at the first moment! I really hoped, that Bono will lift me up to the stage, but I never imagined that he will during my favourite U2 song. I cant really remember what happened there, it came suddenly. But it was amazing. U2MAG > Choose the best song (live) of U2. Compare it with the best Station's song. LM > Hard task! The most energic U2 song we play recently is "Where The Streets Have No Name", and maybe "Elevation". Those songs really make the fans dancing! But until our band isnt known, the people don't really start dancing for Station songs. I don't wanna say, that the audience don't like our music, cos they do, but every time we have new faces in the crowd, and for those people, our song are new, and they have to listen first. U2MAG > 25 years of Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton. Can you tell us how U2 influenced to your life? LM > Everyone in the band knows U2 for a really long time. Musically that's really important. We learned a lot of stuff. For example how to write really simple, but fresh and melodic songs. How to use our instruments, and how to look like professionals. You see, we're nobody, nothing, but you asked me to make an interview. :) And I thank you! U2MAG > What do you hope for the new album of U2? LM > Well. When we were at the studio, we heard a snippet. It sounded like the Boy era U2 playing recent U2 song. It was raw and extraordinary. There are a few rumors how the album will sound like, but nobody knows really. U2MAG > ...And for a new album of Station? LM > We're have a few plan how our band will manage to relase its first album. The first idea is to make it for free, downloadable for the Internet users. In Hungary musicians don't make money with record sellings, so there is no point to get hard cash for a record company and sellig our album. And if people have the chance to download our songs free, maybe they will do it, and our music will be known better than it would if they have to buy our album in the shops. There are a few attempt for free music, like i-Tune and here in Hungary too. They make the advertising, and you give the music free. And maybe we will get more opportunity to have more gigs and bigger audience then. U2MAG > If someone who is reading this interview decide to enter in you siteweb...probably they can't understand the titles of your songs, at first sight. Because you don't come from Ireland... LM > Yeah! We're from Hungary. A beautiful country with weird people! Sorry to say, but we still have our songs only in Hungarian. Iam sure we would have better luck abroad, but until we don't translate our lyrics, and don't have money for travelling, we have to stay here. U2MAG > You are an artist! The "U2 South Park"! hahahahaha. I was astonished when I saw these great pictures. LM > Well, Edge once told me I am an artist, which I dont want to call myself. Those artist who I met, just don't live on this planet, and sometimes they work and think really crappy. Or maybe I was in the wrong company. I just finished the University of Craft and Design here, so I know those people :) My diploma work was a video for Station, which you can download from our site. Anyway the stupid idea of South Park U2 came, wen I was thinking how to get attention during an Elevation gig. I wanted to make a lifesize paper doll, but then I didn't, and made my MacPhisto outfit :) Anyway, I did the same cartoon with Tony Levin, Peter Gabriel's bass player, and I also made the lifesize paper thing for the last years concert tour. Since then I am in email contact with Tony! :) U2MAG > I draw pictures about U2, too. I named them "the UTwOONS". I send you an example for you. Tell me what you think about them. Hehe! Looks really funny :) Hope you will make a really good series in the magazine! U2MAG > Well. Thanks, Lemon, for the interview. My best wishes for STATION from the new U2 Magazine. LM > Thank you! And keep up the good work!
